San Antonio (Bexar County) — VersaTerra, a San Antonio-based land development firm, has begun site work on a new South Side housing development, tying into the fast-growing Mission Del Lago neighborhood off of U.S. Highway 281 South.
The development will be built out in two phases with lots for 160 single-family homes.
San Antonio City Council approved rezoning the undeveloped land from commercial to residential late last year, paving the way for additional housing options for a thriving economic corridor that includes a TJ Maxx distribution center, Brooks, the Toyota Manufacturing plant, Texas A&M-San Antonio campus, and the upcoming Navistar heavy truck assembly plant now in construction.
KB Home currently has the 160 lot development under contract and is expected to start home construction by October 2021. Homes are expected to start in the low $200’s and will include access to amenities that are already in place at Mission Del Lago, including a clubhouse and pool. The subdivision is located near the Mission Del Lago golf course.
“The Southside is a growing market and offers an increasing number of job opportunities with major employers in the area,” said VersaTerra President & CEO Paul Basaldua. “People want to live close to where they grew up and where they work and the vast majority of the employers in the area also want their employees to have short and easy commutes. Residential developments of this nature are what will bring more economic opportunity to the Southside.”
“The VersaTerra community will help bring much-needed variety housing stock to the growing Southside,” said San Antonio District 3 City Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran. “The Southside of San Antonio continues to be the economic emergence for the City with jobs, education opportunities, and quality of life amenities nearby. I am glad to have VersaTerra part of our family.”
