Mission (Hidalgo County) — Killam Development Ltd. is inviting the public to participate in a series of design workshops the week of January 13-17 to help plan the development of 3,400 acres around Sharyland Plantation.
As reported in VBX on December 9, Killam acquired the land from Hunt Realty Investments in late 2019.
It was Killam’s intention then to get residents in or near Mission to provide comments and ideas on how to design a community that best meets their quality of life needs. Elements to be considered include walking and biking trails, park space, access to entertainment and much more.
The workshops and focus groups will be led by consultants from Able City and Dover, Kohl & Partners, a group of professional architects, designers, land planners and artists who will use the public’s input to help transform the real estate into a “beloved neighborhood where people want to live, work and play,” the invitation states.
Killam plans to create a large master planned development that will dedicate sections for residential, institutional, commercial and industrial development. The commercial industrial zone would be near the Anzalduas International Bridge where such activities could best take advantage of the international port.
Public workshops will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. on January 13, 15 and 17 at the Mission CEED (Center for Education and Economic Development), 801 Bryan Road.
The workshops will include activities for kids and food for the whole family.
- Jan. 13 — Kick-off: Hands-on Design | After a quick introduction, the consultant team will sit together to discuss how residents/stakeholders think Sharyland should grow.
- Jan. 15 — an Open-Studio Evening
- Jan. 17 — Final Presentation (your work in progress) | This session will give residents/stakeholders a chance to see the fruits of their labor, and concepts on how Sharyland could become a perfect place to live, work, play and grow.
