McAllen (Hidalgo County) — Valeo has broken ground on a new $225 million manufacturing facility, marking a major industrial investment aimed at advancing next-generation automotive technology while boosting economic growth in the Rio Grande Valley.
The project will deliver a state-of-the-art plant spanning more than 300,000 square feet and is expected to create up to 500 jobs across engineering, production, logistics, and administrative roles.
The facility will focus on producing advanced central computing units for vehicles, including a liquid-cooled system that processes data from multiple sensors and controls key vehicle functions. The plant supports production tied to General Motors and reflects a broader shift toward software-defined vehicles, where a single high-powered computing system replaces dozens of smaller onboard units.
Construction is now underway, with production expected to begin in late 2027. The project represents one of the largest industrial investments in the region’s history and is aligned with Valeo’s long-term growth strategy in North America. Officials said the decision to locate the facility in Texas was driven by the need for supply chain resilience and proximity to key customers.

Beyond the project scope, the development is expected to have a significant regional impact by expanding access to high-skill, higher-wage jobs in an area that has historically faced economic challenges. Leaders in the Rio Grande Valley say the investment signals growing momentum in attracting advanced manufacturing and technology-driven industries, building on recent investments in education, healthcare, and aerospace, including nearby operations tied to SpaceX.
