Van Horn (Culberson County) — In the tiny west Texas town of Van Horn, on streets that look much the same as 30 years ago, except more in need of repair, Van Horn is calling for help to refresh, update and revitalize.

The surrounding area speaks to the desert and rocky hills many people picture as Texas, less than two hours east of El Paso and two and a half hours from Las Cruces, New Mexico. The rough terrain of the 4,868 foot high Threemile Peak, pictured,, rises above the town to the northwest.

On Broadway street, backing up to the rail line that helped create the town, sits a surprising Mexican restaurant with authentic food, a feature on The Texas Bucket List, and a history of famous visitors, including John Madden. Madden made a regular stop at Chuys with his bus and has a table dedicated to him in the back of the tourist-friendly restaurant. Pictures of cowboys, rock stars & country stars line the wall.

A historic hotel in town and an rv park share space with a Napa auto parts and a few diners in this 2.8 square mile town.

A town with fewer than 2000 residents as of the 2020 census, Van Horn is a pass through to such famous Texas locations as Marfa and the Guadalupe Mountains. In spite of the small size and seemingly remote location, VBX has featured 11 projects in the last three years for Van Horn .
