Austin (Travis County) — Texas continues to cement its status as a national construction powerhouse, with four cities landing spots on a new ranking of the 15 U.S. Cities Building the Most Multifamily Housing,” released by The Daily Overview. The list highlights where developers are responding most aggressively to surging demand for apartments as population growth and affordability pressures reshape real estate markets nationwide.

Austin leads Texas at No. 1, topping all U.S. cities in multifamily production. The Daily Overview credits the region’s boom to rapid population growth and a thriving tech economy, which together have generated unprecedented demand for housing. Developers are reshaping the skyline with dense, modern communities aimed at young professionals and families.

Dallas ranks No. 2, underscoring its role as one of the nation’s fastest-growing urban centers. A steady influx of residents, a robust job market, and a business-friendly climate have propelled a wave of high-rise and mixed-use development across the metro.

Houston lands at No. 9, where city leaders and developers are pushing multifamily construction as part of a broader strategy to expand affordable and attainable housing options. As the region’s economy continues to diversify, new apartment projects are rising across urban and suburban areas alike.

San Antonio appears at No. 10, with rising home prices and strong population growth accelerating multifamily demand. The city’s expanding portfolio of both luxury and affordable apartment communities reflects its efforts to serve a growing, increasingly diverse population.

Together, the four Texas cities highlight the state’s continued dominance in large-scale housing production and its ability to absorb sustained in-migration at a level few other regions can match.
