Taylor (Williamson County) — Samsung has been awarded $4.74 billion from the United States Department of Commerce that company will use to expand its presence in the region.
The company has pledged to invest over $37 million into the region to solidify Central Texas into a comprehensive ecosystem for development and production of chips in America.
The money will be used for the company’s endeavors to develop two semiconductor chip fabrication plants, along with a research and development plant in Taylor. The expansion of the company’s Austin facility is also tethered to the funds.
“With this investment in Samsung, the U.S. is now officially the only country on the planet that is home to all five leading-edge semiconductor manufacturers. This is an extraordinary achievement, which will ensure we have a steady, domestic supply of the most advanced semiconductors that are essential to AI and national security, while also creating tens of thousands of good-paying jobs and transforming communities across the country,” said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo.
