Odessa (Ector County) — Ector County has broken ground on the new Kellus Turner Community Center in the western portion of the city, marking the start of construction on a nearly $800,000, 4,700-square-foot community facility at 2261 Sycamore Drive.
The center is the first project under the county’s newly approved Parks Master Plan and is being designed as a gathering place for families and community activities. County officials said the facility will serve an area where the only existing public park is located and where a growing population includes many young families.
Ector County is serving as its own general contractor, with county departments and employees handling the construction in-house. Local contractors are also involved in the project, according to county officials.
The project is being funded through voter-approved sales tax revenue designated for county infrastructure and quality-of-life improvements. Although the project has an estimated cost of about $800,000, County Judge Dustin Fawcett said the county is targeting a final cost closer to $750,000.
Construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
