Houston (Harris County) — A long-anticipated redevelopment is moving forward in West Houston as Moody National Development begins construction on a 17-acre mixed-use project at the former Shadowdale Grain Elevator property, 1235 Shadowdale Drive. Situated north of Interstate 10 near Beltway 8, the decade-long transformation will convert the former industrial site into a pedestrian-oriented residential and retail destination.
The historic grain silos, long a landmark in the corridor, will remain central to the design. Plans call for the structures to be refreshed with new paint, lighting, and signage while being integrated into the project’s layout. Developers will carve pedestrian walkways directly through the silos, creating connections between street-facing retail along Westview Drive and interior gathering spaces. A water feature installed within the silos is also planned, forming an active art installation at the heart of the development.
The first phase, now underway, is Silo Springs, a five-story, 346-unit luxury apartment community. Designed in a wrap-style configuration, the building will encircle a six-story parking garage, maximizing density while screening structured parking from view. The unit mix will include one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans.
Future phases will expand the site with approximately 80,000 square feet of retail space, a boutique hotel, potential office space, and a second high-end multifamily community dubbed Silo Villas.
Moody National purchased the property in December 2022. Arch-Con Corp. is serving as general contractor for the initial phase as the developer advances its long-term vision for the West Houston corridor. The design firm for the project was PVEDI.
