Houston (Harris County) — The Houston Police Foundation will soon break ground on the Fertitta Family Firearms Training Facility. The $10.5 million state-of-the-art indoor range will significantly expand HPD’s training capabilities.
A new state-of-the-art firearms training facility is slated to be constructed on the north side of the Houston Police Academy, located at 17000 Aldine Westfield Road, near Bush Intercontinental Airport. The project will feature a climate-controlled indoor shooting range with capabilities for 100-yard training.
The project is designed to expand officer training capacity significantly. The facility will include 20 firearm lanes, quadrupling the number of officers that can be trained simultaneously. In addition to the range, plans include an administrative building with two classrooms, office space, a kitchen and an armory.
Construction is slated to begin in mid-June, according to the Houston Police Foundation, which is spearheading the fundraising efforts.
Houston billionaire Tilman Fertitta, chairman of the foundation’s board, contributed $2.5 million to the project. In recognition of his donation, the facility will be named in his honor.”
