Groveton (Trinity County) — A new truck stop center proposed along Highway 94 at FM 3154 could soon become part of the city limits, following discussion at a recent public hearing by the City Council.

The development, led by Fly Investment Group, is planned to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with construction expected to begin in late 2025 and a grand opening targeted for spring 2026.

As part of the proposal, Groveton officials intend to annex the property to bring the project under city jurisdiction. Mayor Hayden Lee said the city’s existing water and sewer systems can support the development, and the company will cover the cost of constructing a turn lane to help manage increased traffic. Lee also confirmed that a three-year tax abatement is being considered to give the business additional financial flexibility during construction.

Public feedback during the hearing focused on infrastructure, safety, and traffic flow. Residents asked about potential impacts on water capacity, the need for sidewalks, and whether the speed limit along Highway 94 might be lowered to improve safety. The mayor noted that TxDOT has approved no speed change at this time.

City officials also addressed fire safety concerns, confirming that a 6-inch water line and fire hydrant will be added to the site. Several residents, including Fire Chief Glenn Hammond and Sandy Richards, expressed optimism about the project, saying the truck stop could boost local sales tax revenue and contribute positively to Groveton’s economic growth.
