Bufalo (Leon County) — Delta Sands LLC has unveiled plans to build a new 3-million-ton-per-year wet sand processing facility near the city, strategically positioned in the heart of the Western Haynesville Shale.
The project aims to meet the region’s rising demand for high-quality in-basin proppant as natural gas development and infrastructure investment continue to expand across East Texas.
The new facility, currently in the design and permitting phase, will produce 40/200 mesh sand with an 8K crush strength and is expected to begin operations by April 2026. Once complete, Delta Sands will deliver regionally sourced sand to operators throughout the Western Haynesville, providing a reliable, high-volume supply that shortens transportation distances and lowers well completion costs for energy producers.
The same team behind Performance Proppants, the first and largest regional sand producer in the legacy Haynesville Shale, founded the company. Leveraging that experience, Delta Sands aims to replicate a proven model of efficiency and reliability in the Western Haynesville market. “Our mission is to deliver a dependable, high-quality proppant supply directly from the center of the play,” said Bill Bowdon, CEO of Delta Sands. “This project builds on our proven model, supporting both the energy industry and local economies as the Western Haynesville continues to grow.” Located just off Interstate 45 and U.S. Highway 79, the site offers direct logistical access to both East Texas and Gulf Coast markets, providing operators a competitive advantage in supply chain efficiency. Construction is set to begin later this year, with full commissioning on track for spring 2026.
