The Colony (Denton County) — White Castle has officially broken ground on its first Texas restaurant, marking a major milestone for the iconic fast-food chain as it expands into the Lone Star State with a new location at Grandscape in The Colony.
The project, located at 5420 Destination Drive, will feature a 3,430-square-foot restaurant designed with a double drive-thru, patio seating, and a covered outdoor dining area to accommodate what company officials expect will be strong customer demand. Construction is now underway, with the restaurant slated to open in late fall.
The development will create approximately 70 new jobs and represents White Castle’s first physical presence in Texas during the company’s 104-year history. During the groundbreaking ceremony, company executives, including members of the fourth-generation family ownership group and Chief Marketing Officer Jamie Richardson, participated in a symbolic “sprinkling of the onions” at the future grill location, a nod to the chain’s signature slider preparation method.
White Castle selected Grandscape, one of North Texas’ largest mixed-use developments, as its entry point into the Texas market. Company officials said the location’s regional draw and high traffic volumes made it an ideal site for the expansion. The restaurant will be positioned near the intersection of Destination Drive and Grandscape Boulevard within the 433-acre entertainment, retail, and dining district.
The project adds another nationally recognized brand to Grandscape’s growing roster of tenants and further strengthens The Colony’s position as a regional destination for retail and entertainment development. The restaurant is expected to attract customers from across North Texas, many of whom have previously traveled out of state to visit White Castle locations.
White Castle CEO Lisa Ingram said the company views the Texas expansion as a significant milestone in its long-term growth strategy. The family-owned chain currently operates 335 restaurants nationwide and is known for its Original Slider hamburgers, as well as a menu that includes chicken, fish, and breakfast offerings.
Once completed, the new restaurant will serve as White Castle’s flagship Texas location and could pave the way for additional expansion opportunities across the state.
