SAN ANTONIO (Bexar County) — City Council has approved a significant milestone for District 3 with the authorization of a construction contract for a new, state-of-the-art police substation located at 8811 S. Flores Street, near the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and East Ashley Road.
The new facility is a key project within the voter-approved 2022 Bond Program and will significantly strengthen public safety resources for the South Side community. Once complete, the facility will house patrol operations, the San Antonio Fear Free Environment (SAFFE) Unit, and the Crisis Response Team, along with an additional 28 sworn supervisory personnel and 7 civilian support staff, all dedicated to improving response times, supporting community policing, and meeting the evolving needs of District 3 residents.
“This has been a long-awaited project that began with my predecessor and sister, Councilmember Rebecca Viagran,” said District 3 Councilmember Phyllis Viagran. “I am honored to have championed it across the finish line with the strong support of our community, who overwhelmingly backed this initiative through the 2022 Bond Program.”
The substation will enhance public safety for the southern region of San Antonio and provide a welcoming space for residents to engage with local law enforcement, fostering trust, collaboration, and a safer environment for all.
Construction is expected to begin in Fall 2025 and be completed by Spring 2027.
