Austin (Travis County) — Travis County Commissioners Court awarded a Tulsa, Oklahoma-based construction company with a $16.9 million contract for the development of the Bee Creek Sports Complex during Tuesday’s meeting.
Flintco, LLC, the sole bidder, received the contract to build the new sports complex and associated infrastructure on 70 acres located at 4440 Bee Creek Road in the western portion of the city.
Construction will consist of new synthetic soccer and baseball/softball fields, parking, restrooms, a playground and picnic area, maintenance building, other amenities and associated infrastructure.
The county had advertised the competitive sealed proposal for the project on Oct. 13, 2020 and held a bid opening on Nov. 12.
The Transportation and Natural Resources evaluation committee reviewed the proposal and the Travis County Purchasing Office negotiated the recommended contract in the amount of $16,984,190.68; the price consists of $12,834,557.87 for the base bid, and $4,149,632.81 for the alternates.
The county inquired with vendors, who had viewed the solicitation, but did not submit a proposal to find out why they did not participate.
Vendors responded that they did not want to enter into a line items contract for the park.
Financing for the Bee Creek Sports Complex will come from a 2017 bond program. On Jan. 9, 2018, Travis County entered into a contract with the City of Lakeway for construction and management of the voter approved bond project.
Austin-based civil engineers MWM Design Group and the engineering offices of Stantec are on board the project team.
The rest of the design team is Austin-based Tenet Design Partners, Ecoland Design Group LLC, (MEP Engineer) Baer Engineering & Environmental Consulting, Inc., along with McKinney-based landscape architects, Sports Design Group, LLC.
