Austin (Travis County) — Alder at the Grove, a 276 unit multifamily complex with interior design by Britt Design Group, architecture by JHP and construction by Andres Construction is part of developer’s High Street Residential’s sprawling master planned community, The Grove.
Britt Design Group makes an impactful design statement with Alder at the Grove, featuring artwork inspired by Austin’s lively music and art scene. “Connection to Austin was an important element – the developer wanted this incorporated into all of the multiple phases of The Grove. With that in mind, we took design influence from Austin’s music and street art communities,” says Laura Britt, founding principal with Britt Design Group. “The blending of geometric and fluid patterns is reminiscent of the juxtaposition between orthogonally designed buildings layered with street art that we see in downtown Austin.”
“Developers are seeking spaces that serve multiple needs,” added Britt. Alder’s multifamily lobby space is a vibrant blend of functionality and artistic expression. Custom modular seating, available in various shapes and sizes, flexes to meet the users’ needs, whether for viewing unit floor plans on the interactive TV or as a casual work spot. The lobby lounge seating area features a custom rug that echoes the geometric trim work found throughout the interior, creating a cohesive and visually engaging design. A standout feature is the custom artwork, a three-dimensional graffiti-style piece that blends various patterns and colors present throughout the project and adds depth and a unique character to the space.
The design team’s plan focuses on vibrant accents and ground engagement points, fostering both extended interactions and quick perches, creating spaces that are energetic, lively, and authentically Austin. Custom and local art are central to this project.
Featured in the lobby, the team designed a bespoke wallcovering with MDC featuring iconic Austin buildings, landmarks, and music-related verbiage in a graffiti art style.
Other custom artwork, by local Austin artists, is sprinkled throughout the amenity areas, including one in the game room featuring playful figures, vivid hues and multiple planes of depth, creating dynamic focal points in the room.
