McKinney (Collin County) — A new era for live music in North Texas is taking shape as VENU Holding Corporation unveiled new renderings for the $300 million Sunset Amphitheater, a 20,000-seat open-air venue now under construction in McKinney. The world-class facility, powered by EIGHT Elite Light Beer, is scheduled to open next year near U.S. Highway 75 and State Highway 121, bringing “A-list, Grammy Award-winning, national touring acts” to Collin County.
Developed in partnership with the City of McKinney, the McKinney Economic Development Corporation, and the McKinney Community Development Corporation, the amphitheater will serve as a landmark public-private project designed to elevate McKinney’s entertainment and tourism profile. A groundbreaking ceremony is planned for spring 2025.
“This world-class music venue is a game-changer for our entertainment offerings in McKinney and will be a boom for our economic growth and tourism sector,” said McKinney Mayor George Fuller. “With a state-of-the-art venue of this size, we can draw some of the largest musical acts to the city and attract fans from across Texas and beyond.”
The Sunset Amphitheater will feature an adaptive design that makes the open-air venue usable year-round, including heating systems, canopies, and wind walls. It will accommodate 20,000 guests at full capacity and about 5,000 for smaller events.
Among its luxury offerings are Fire Pit Suites—private fan spaces with premium food and beverage options, VIP parking, and personal restrooms—and The Aikman Club, a members-only club created in partnership with NFL Hall of Famer Troy Aikman.
VENU founder and CEO J.W. Roth called the project one of the company’s most ambitious yet. “We are proud to be building the greatest amphitheater ever built in history right here in McKinney,” Roth said. “The Sunset Amphitheater will defy all expectations and create a lasting legacy that all Texans can take pride in.”
While some VENU projects elsewhere have faced concerns about noise and traffic, McKinney officials say the amphitheater’s strategic design and infrastructure planning will ensure a smooth integration into the growing community.
