Waco (McLennan County) — The Texas State Technical College Board of Regents approved the project and a budget of over $6 million to renovate the Electronic Center and the Technical Studies Center buildings on the Waco campus.
During this morning’s May 13 board meeting the regents approved the two renovations and a total project budget of $6,085,000.
The Electronics Center and Technical Studies Center buildings were constructed in 1979 and 1983, respectively. They are two of the oldest non-Air Force base buildings on the campus.
TSTC applied for a U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant to improve the laboratories within the two facilities. The EDA awarded $3.5 million for the renovation project. TSTC is matching that grant with $2,585,000.
The buildings are to be reconfigured for high value programs, including instrumentation technology, electric power and controls, and biomedical equipment technology.
Renovations will increase the number of training stations, add capacity and improve efficiency of space utilization.
