Georgetown (Williamson County) — A national member-only big-box retailer had its construction plans for a retail store approved, during Tuesday’s Planning and Zoning Commission meeting.

Costco Wholesale will open a store on 21.39 acres located at 2201 N I-35 in the northern portion of the city.

VBX first reported on the project in November of 2019 stating that the membership warehouse intended to open a store in the city.

The new Costco will be 157,931 square feet and includes an attached 5,300-square-foot tire center. It will also have lease spaces for liquor sales and optical exams–both are standard features in Costco stores.

The liquor sales “pod” will measure 3,862 square feet and the eye exam location will be 718 square feet.

Additionally, there will be a free-standing, 24-position fueling complex on site, a property on the northwest corner of Lakeway Drive and Interstate 35.

The fueling station will have a 8,127-square-foot canopy, expandable to 11,655 square feet. The store will have 753 parking spaces.

Seattle-based Weisman Design Group is doing the landscape design. Dallas-based Winkelmann & Associates is the engineer.

Seattle firm MG2 is the architectural designer and Irving Geotechnical engineer Kleinfelder, Inc. round out the project team.

This was the third consideration of this request, with the commission last hearing the request at their Jan. 28 meeting.
