Texas Construction News from Virtual Builders Exchange

Denton (Denton County) – Texas Woman’s University will choose a general contractor in February for the $54.5 million expansion and renovation of Hubbard Hall.
Bids on the project from the competing contractors are due Tuesday, January 30.
TWU plans are to build a 23,920-square-foot addition. Another 100,754 square feet of Hubbard Hall is to be renovated, and the Redbud Theater housed in Hubbard Hall will received a fire sprinkler system.
The theater and hall will remain in operation through construction. This will require an phased-in renovation process during construction and some scheduled relocation of university operations. For example, the Student Health Services will relocate to another site by July 2018.

Hubbard Hall is a three-story structure. Some demolition work will be required on all three levels, and the phasing in of renovations will occur on all three levels and the roof.
According to TWU, constructed is to begin in March. When completed in September 2019, the student union will have an expanded food service facility, large and small meeting spaces, study lounges, an auditorium and ballroom. Other amenities include a veteran’s loung, meditation room and expanded art gallery space.
Hubbard Hall is home to the Student Government Assocation Chamber. The organization will have new quarters.
The hall is over 45 years old and lacks many of the amenities today’s students have come to expect. Hubbard Hall is one of six major construction projects in the works on campus.
The project architect is Fort Worth-based Hahnfeld Hoffer Stanford. Construction documents are available in the Virtual Builders Exchange database. See Project ID 2017-A691.
