Corpus Christi (Nueces County) — A locally-based hotelier is awaiting on architectural designs to construct a five-story hotel on South Padre Island Drive beginning in early 2022.

According  to a report filed with a state regulatory agency, Kennedy Hotelier LP will be constructing a Residence Inn-Corpus Christi (the project name) at 3313 S. Padre Island Drive, which is located less than a block east of Kostoryz Road, south of the expressway.

Kennedy Hotelier LP is an affiliate of RGB Hospitality Management, a company founded by Corpus Christi hotelier Raju Bhagat. Mr. Bhagat has developed and managed more than 25 hotels in the Coastal Bend region. These include franchise licenses with Hampton Inn and Suites, Hyatt Place, SpringHill Suites by Marriott, Holiday Inn Express and others.

The new project site is a 2.16-acre vacant lot, the front section of which has the remnants of an old parking lot and building foundation that must be removed during site work. The county has assessed the lot with a $685,441 valuation.

The multi-story hotel is to have a gross square footage of about 102,913 SF, according to a filing from the project designer, MCS Architects LLC of Houston. MCS (aka Mitchell Carlson Stone Inc.) specializes in hotels and apartment buildings.

The project cost has been estimated at $5 million, and construction is expected to begin by Feb. 15, 2022, according to MCS. Current plans are to complete construction before the end of August 2023.
