Bryan: 11 Future Projects for Bryan and Brenham Campuses Presented to Blinn College Trustees

Bryan (Brazos County) — The Blinn College Board of Trustees were recently presented with an updated master plan that would develop 11 new projects on their Bryan and Brenham campuses over the next six years.

The presentation was given during a workshop last week that included construction costs and timelines that would bring three new projects to the Bryan campus and eight new projects to the Brenham campus.

The architectural firm Gensler prepared the revised master plan. The earliest of the Bryan campus projects to start construction would be the Bryan Administration and Student Services Building. This and the other projects are described below:

Bryan Administration and Student Services Building — VBX Project ID: 2021-6597

A new $30.95 million, 45,000 square foot Bryan Administration & Student Services Building.

The scope of the work would include new road extension and a Nash Street entrance, a north monument sign and the demolition of an Rivergate Church and adjacent structures, and demolition of the 12,000 square-foot Building S.

The construction of the project is expected to begin in 2022 and end in 2024.

Bryan Library Renovation and Expansion (and associated projects) — VBX Project ID: 2021-659A

The scope of work involves renovating the existing library in Building, along with a one-story, 10,000 square foot expansion. Improvements include an upgrade to plantings, site furnishing and lighting, along with new areas of hardscape, a monumental landmark and a large public art piece at a cost of $12.8 million. The project is expected to take place between 2024 to 2026.

Bryan South Campus Pedestrian Connectivity and Parking Renovation — VBX Project ID: 2021-659E

The project will involve a new grass parking island with sidewalk, shade trees, pedestrian lighting and restriping the adjacent parking lot at a cost of $245,000 with construction expected to take place in 2025.

Brenham Projects:

Brenham Sports and Intramural Zone Phase II — VBX Project ID: 2021-65A2 

The $35.5 million project will involve a complex that will include regulation-sized fields (practice football field, competition soccer field, competition soccer field and putting/chipping green). A new 27,000 square foot field house that will contain sports offices, locker rooms and training facilities.

The construction includes 115 parking spaces and a 2,500 square foot storage building with a new road connection from the existing round-about to Appel Way. Work will include extension of site infrastructure and utilities.

The project timeline is expected to run from 2026 to 2027.

Brenham academic building and associated projects — VBX Project ID: 2021-65A6

The scope of work involves a new two-story, 30,000 square foot academic building, along with the demolition of the existing academic building. Further work includes replacement of chillers and pumps, reconfiguring piping and installation of a new cooling tower, along with a monument sign at a cost of $23.8 million. The project is scheduled to begin in 2023 and end in 2024.

Brenham New Student Services Building (and associated projects) — VBX Project ID: 2021-6548

The scope of work involves a new three-story, 24,000 square foot student services building and the demolition of K. Atkinson Hall at a cost of $14.5 million. The project is expected to run from 2024-2026.

Brenham Melcher Hall Renovation — VBX Project ID: 2021-65AA

The project will involve full building renovation to include HVAC system upgrade, interior finish upgrades, and window and roof replacement at a cost of $6 million. The project is slated for 2025 and will be completed by 2026.

Brenham Administration Renovation — VBX Project ID: 2021-65AB

The Melcher Hall project involves renovation of levels one and two of the building to accommodate new administrative offices (accounting, budget, business office, facilities, planning and construction, human resources, institutional research, purchasing and marketing) at a budget of $4.3 million. The project timeline has the renovation beginning in 2025 and ending a year later.

Brenham College Avenue street and sidewalk realignment project — VBX Project ID: 2021-65AC

The scope of work involves a three block realignment from Green Street to Blinn Boulevard that will include the removal of existing angled parking, road restriping, curb extensions, expansion and extension of sidewalks, along with the demolition of existing retaining wall at a cost of $1 million. The project is scheduled to begin in 2022.

Brenham Esports Renovation at Mill Creek Hall — VBX Project ID: 2021-65AD

The scope of work involves converting two existing classrooms into an Esports facility at a cost of $600,000 with a scheduled start date of 2022.

Brenham Demolition Projects — VBX Project ID: 2021-65AF

The scope of work involves the demolition of Holleman Hall, Memorial Hall and Solons Hall, along with the SBDC building and relocation of SBDC functions at a cost of $565,000. The project is expected to take place in 2023.
