Brownsville (Cameron County) — The City Commission will be awarding a contract today to a local architectural firm to oversee design and construction of a new roof for the Ringgold Civic Pavilion, home of the Children’s Museum of Brownsville.

GMS Architects is the staff recommended firm for the roof replacement project. The building has been experiencing roof leaks and a recent engineer’s roof assessment recommended the reroofing and rooftop HVAC systems replacement.

The contract fee of $92,125 is for professional services that shall include schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding and negotiation with contractors, and construction observation.

GMS estimated their fee based on an estimated construction cost of $1,195,000.

The new HVAC units have already been purchased. The contractor would remove the existing units and replace them with the new ones.
