Austin (Travis County) — A local real estate company received rezoning for a 399-unit multifamily development, at a meeting of the Planning Commission last week.

The 4.1-acre north Austin property was converted from general commercial services (CS) to multifamily (MF-6) with a conditional overlay that limits building height to 60 feet.

On the site, there is presently a 147,522 square-foot shopping center, Spectrum Retail Center, that will need to be razed. The property address is 8440 Burnet Road.

The working title of the project takes its cue from its location, 8440 Burnet Multifamily.

Jamil Alam, a manager with Endeavor Real Estate Group is proposing to develop the project under the entity OP II ATX 844 0 Burnet Road LTD.

Standard landscaping and tree protection will be required in accordance with the city’s land development code.

The development is located approximately three blocks east of a Cap Metro rail line.

Walter W. Cardwell IV with the law firm Armbrust & Brown PLLC represented the project to the commission.
