Harlingen (Cameron County) - SpawGlass is soliciting subcontractor bids for the construction of a new corporate headquarters in Harlingen for Texas Regional Bank.

Texas Regional Bank began assembling a development team in the spring of 2016 with the intent to build a new headquarters building at 100 Stuart Place Road. The project site is in the 13-acre Stuart Place Crossing commercial retail development that is northeast of the intersection of Stuart Place Road and Interstate 2. Civil work began in 2016 on the shopping center.

The development team for the bank project includes McAllen-based ROFA Architects Inc.; Ferris, Flinn & Medina LLC on civil; SSP Design, landscape consultants; Chanin Engineering LLC for structural; and SpawGlass as the general contractor. See VBX Project ID 2017 6313.

At four stories, the corporate headquarters will be the tallest building in the commercial center. The building will have 41,893 square feet.

A pre-proposal conference was conducted by SpawGlass on July 13, and sub bids are due August 1 to the Harlingen office.

The building will have modular face brick veneer on the exterior of the ground floor and most of the second and third floors. The brick will be contrasted in midsections and above the third floor with curtain wall and glazed assemblies. A modular metal wall panel system will skirt the roof's edge.

The west entry is the main entance for bank customers and leads into the bank lobby. A coffee bar is to be located with access from the south vestibule.

Within the commercial center, 87 parking spaces have been allotted as part of the bank's operation. There will also be two drive-thru lanes for motor banking on the north side of the building.

The main commercial building in Stuart Place Crossing, designed by Origo Works Ltd., is about 36,000 square feet and two stories tall. It's designed to hold about 24 tenants. Vertical construction began this year and is expected to reach substantial completion this fall. It has an estimated cost of about $6.8 million, but that does not include the bank project.

On a separate pad, Cheddar's is building a restaurant.

Texas Regional was founded in 2010 when Texas State Bankshares acquired Falfurrias State Bank and relocated the charter to Harlingen. In 2013, Texas Regional acquired Border Capital Bank, and in February of this year it acquired Blanco National Bank. It has asset of about $820 million and 13 branches in the Rio Grande Valley.
