Allen (Collin County) - Garages of Texas is ready to build out its next luxury car condo community, this one is going up in Allen next to the Allen Premium Outlets.

For the well-to-do car lover that doesn't have enough space at home, or just needs a way to keep his hobby separate from his home life, Garages of Texas offers high-end gated and fire-proofed storage facilities for very expensive automobiles. But these are more than just places to secure a luxury automobile.

Prices range from $60,000 to $600,000 for a unit. The higher the price depends on how elaborate the buyer wants his man cave customized. Units can include mezzanines, game rooms, shower facilities. However, the Allen Planning Department forbids living spaces, so owners can't sleep over with their car. There are limits to every love affair.

Subcontractors bidding on the Allen project have until noon June 15 (Thursday) to submit their offers to the invited general contractors. This is VBX Project ID 2017-49B0.

The scope of work involves construction of six structures totaling about 88,820 square feet. The estimated cost was reported as $12 million by the developer.

The exteriors have a modernist industrial look. Materials used include stucco, CMU, glass, corrugated metal, and metal roll-up doors of galvanized steel.

The architect is Edwin Brantley Smith+Associates of Dallas. The engineering team includes JDJR Engineers and Consultants, civil; AOS Engineering, MEP; and Smith Engineering Company Inc., structural.

The owner, Garages of Texas, also appears as Stacy & Chelsea LP on construction documents. The project site property runs parallel and west of Chelsea Road, and is several hundred feet north of Stacy Road.

This 8.6-acre project site is called Garages of Texas at Star Creek. The suffix is an obvious reference to the Star Creek single family neighborhood just west of the site.

The six buildings of Garages of Texas at Star Creek are all classified as one story, but they have staggered heights that range from about 27 to more than 34 feet. The building areas also vary. The individual building square footages are:

  • 7,600 square feet
  • 10,095 square feet
  • 13,613 square feet
  • 14,318 square feet
  • 17,799 square feet
  • 25,395 square feet

Owners are encouraged to get involved in a community of like-minded luxury car enthusiasts. One of the buildings is a clubhouse where owners can socialize.

The Allen site is one of six that Garages of Texas planned. The first auto condo facility was completed in Plano, which has 69 units. Others are planned for Lakeview, Carrollton, Frisco and Roanoke.
