San Jacinto College Seeks CMAR for Welcome Center

Pasadena (Harris County) - The San Jacinto College District is seeking a general contractor to be the Construction Manager-at-Risk for the pre-construction and construction of a new Central Campus Welcome Center. In other SJCD business, subcontractors must submit bids by June 28 for work on the $39.3 million Center for Petrochemical, Energy and Technology.

The SJCCD Board of Trustees delegated to the College Administration the selection of a CMAR and a Request for Qualifications was issued May 31. There will be a pre-submittal conference tomorrow (June 8) at 2 p.m. at the Central Campus.

The project site is located at 8060 Spencer Highway. The estimated construction budget is $12,915,906.

The new Welcome Center building--Project ID 2017-5262--is described in the RFQ as having 52,040 square feet. Its purpose is to provide a single point of contact for all enrollment and student development services.

"It will combine all enrollment and student service functions, as well as college-wide support services into a single facility," the RFQ states. "The building will include an orientation center with space for approximately 200 people that coule be flexed to support a number of events during the year. The building will also house offices."

The selected construction manager will assist the architect and engineers with pre-construction services. The design firm is Page Southerland Page LLP of Houston.

The RFQs are due June 16. After they are screened, selected firms will be invited on June 27 to respond to a Request for Proposals. The proposals are due July 5 and the Board of Trustees will approve a contract award August 14, based on the staff's recommendation.

Tellepsen Builders LP, the construction manager on this project, will conduct a non-mandatory pre-bid conference June 15 for subcontractor trades interested in the construction of the Center for Petrochemical, Energy and Technology. This project site is at the northeast corner of Fairmount Parkway and Cunningham Road.

This center steps up with one- and two-story elevations and will have a total area of 133,000 square feet.

When completed, it will provide state-of-the-art instructional labs for process technology, instrumentation, non-destructive testing, electrical technology and fire protection.
