Lubbock (Lubbock County) - Lee Lewis Construction Inc. appears to be set to begin construction by early summer on a five-story Aloft Hotel in the West End.

As construction manager, Lee Lewis is in the process of selecting subcontractors, whose bids for a piece of the project are due later this month.

The Aloft at West End has been anticipated for at least a year. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. has been carrying this as one of 20 Texas locations scheduled to open between June 2017 and 2019. The Lubbock location is listed as opening by July of 2018.

This is listed as a $10 million project on a 2.48-acre site on Iola Avenue at 29th Street. The building footprint is 17,785 square feet. The total building area is 79,384 square feet, according to the construction documents.

The architectural design adheres to the trademark look of an Aloft Hotel with its sleek rectangular shape, sloping aerodynamic style roof and mix of spandrel glass exterior finishes. It has a height of 54 feet at roof slab and 58 feet to the parapet.

Featured amenities include an indoor, climate-control swimming pool, a bar/lounge and fitness center.

The limited liability company (owner) for Starwood is Lubbock West End Aloft LLC. The architect is Austin-based Merriman Pitt Anderson Architects (MPA).

The civil engineer is AMD Engineering LLC; structural engineer is Dunaway Associates Inc.; MEP is Jordan & Skala Engineers Inc.; and landscape design was by Watermaster Irrigation Supply Inc. Upon completion, hotel operations will be through Taj Hospitality Management.
