Georgetown (Williamson County) - The Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, will soon have contractors building the Georgetown Religious House, which has an estimated cost of $42 million.

Contractor bids, due May 2, will help the Dominican Sisters determine the actual price. The two-story structure will have a total of 74,973 square feet.

This project has been years in the making. In 2013, a spokesperson from the order's Mother House in Michigan told VBX they hoped to break ground on a 101,000-square-foot, two-story convent by the summer of 2015.

The scale of the project was since reduced and the construction start delayed, but they're ready now. The architectural style is intended to blend into the Hill Country limestone style.

The sisters  specified the structure be of steel framing with masonry and stucco. The Religious House is to be a residency for the sisters, and will include office and recreational space.

The convent is being built to assist the Diocese of Austin with its mission of educating current and future generations of Catholic schoolchildren, according to the Dominican Sisters of Mary web page on the project.

A 60-acre tract of land near Georgetown on the San Gabriel River was purchased in 2011 for the purposes of constructing the convent. It has an address of 5501 E. State Highway 29. A temporary mission convent was completed in 2013.

The design team has remained the same throughout. The Wallace Group and Pfluger Associates Architects collaborated.
