Austin (Travis County) The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will receive an additional $15 million from the new Infrastructure Law to advance airport expansion.

The funds will go toward increasing the square footage of the Barbara Jordan Terminal to meet growing passenger demand, including new aircraft gates and passenger waiting spaces, enhanced TSA security checkpoints, new passenger boarding bridges as well improving way-finding, accessibility and more.

According to Congressman Llyod  Doggett (D-Austin): “In order for Austin to be the international city—the hub of education, culture, and technology—that I know we are, our institutions and our infrastructure must be properly equipped to support world-class endeavors and worldwide visitors.”

VBX last reported on the project in October of 2021 when the City of Austin chose the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) method for its Airport Expansion and Development Program

“While our most immediate need has been for more Transportation Service Administration (TSA) resources to prevent more long lines and baggage issues,” Doggett added. “These infrastructure funds will help in expanding our airport to meet the demands of both our growing population and our growing role as an international gateway city.”

Architects Page Southerland Page Inc. and JE Dunn Construction, both out of Austin, are on board the project.

The $15 million is in addition to $17.3 million in funding from the infrastructure law already provided to Austin-Bergstrom late last year. The new funding is from the Airport Terminal Program.
